This year marks the 58th edition of Salone del Mobile 2019. The event takes place from the 9th to the 14th of April. The Salone Internazionale del Mobile it’s a design showcase that has always mixed business with culture, shaping the history of design and furnishing yesterday, today and tomorrow. A global platform for truly top-notch products with an emphasis on innovation that’s part of Milan Design Week.

The Salone Internazionale del Mobile was founded in 1961 as a vehicle for promoting Italian furniture and furnishings exports and soon became the most keenly awaited event in the world of furniture. Last year’s edition was a huge success and the 58th Edition of iSaloni is ready to step up to the expectations and surpass the success of the 57th Edition, that gathered a total of 434,509 visitors. 1841 exhibitors showcased their products in Fiera Milano Rho last year.
The many exhibitors along with the thousands of products being unveiled for the first time confirm the Salone Internazionale del Mobile’s enormous value as an international showcase for creativity and a forum for industry professionals, with more than 330,000 attendees on average, every year, from 165 different nations. This is one of Milan Design Week’s main events!
This part of the event focuses especially on the work of young designers, specifically those under 35 years old. It can be described as a potential meeting place between potential young talents in design and businessmen. Here is an opportunity for many young designers to present their prototypes and turn them into reality by contacting several enterprises.
Fuorisalone is a set of events that are distributed throughout Milan at the same time of Salone Internazionale del Mobile. These two events, you could say, are the main definers of Milan Design Week. However, in the case of the Fuoriosalone, this is not a fair event nor is it controlled by any institution, but it’s an initiative that expands to many other areas such as art, fashion, food, technology and telecommunications. You can find many of the exhibitors of Fuoriosalone at many Milanese districts, mainly in Brera, Tortona and Ventura.
The XXII Triennale di Milano starts on the 1st of March and ends at the 12th of June, however, it’s also a potential event to be seen during Milan Design Week. This year’s theme is “Broken Nature: Design Takes on Human Survival” and the main goal is to, in their words “promote the importance of creative practices in surveying our species’ bonds with the complex systems in the world” and discuss and analyze potential solutions in that regard. The event is currently curated by Paola Antonelli (Senior Curator of Architecture and Design and also the Director of R&D at The Museum of Modern Art, New York).

This year those who will be attending Salone del Mobile can expect o find a range of displays that will pay tribute to Renaissance ideas and incorporate them into modern design. There’s also some buzz around “S Project”, a new display format expected to bring together multiple brands and products (both newcomers and usual guests) into one single space.
SaloneSattelite
SaloneSatellite was the first event to focus on young designers, instantly becoming the unrivalled place for interface with manufacturers, talent scouts, and the most promising young designers, and since 1998 runs concurrently with the Salone del Mobile. Milano. Its creation was essentially a declaration of faith in the creative potential of designers under 35. This emphasizes Milan Design Week’s strength in giving new designers new opportunities.
